Being from another state I only recognized the photo and name of Pat Tillman. I was shocked to learn it's been 10 years since he was killed. I also noticed only two memories written, one approaching four years old. That's all? I did not know Mr. Tillman personally, but like many I know his story. Today the media throws out the phrase hero far too many times. Even for silly little incidents. Sometimes one wonders, a hero, seriously? For me the meaning of the word hero should be limited. As stated in the dictionary, a hero is: a man of distinguished courage or ability. A hero has many faces. Just like the face in the photograph of Army Ranger Cpl Patrick Tillman. I'm not sure his story can be replicated, certainly not by another professional athlete. His promising pro football career and financial status put aside to serve in the military. All of it done for a free country that gave him many opportunities; and now he feels compelled to pay back. I'm not sure what's taught in schools today, but I certainly hope his story is told and not forgotten. My guess is it will be forgotten. America seems to be sliding down the freedom slope. Yet for the few brave young men and women who are courageous, honorable and patriotic and choose to serve and fight, they should be forever respected and honored. I hope "the man" Cpl. Patrick Tillman, is guarding the gates of heaven. God knows he deserves and earned his post. May God forever bless and protect America's protectors. You are, and furthermore will be my hero. RIP Ranger Tillman. Hooah, and dont forget up there, RANGERS LEAD THE WAY! We had better timing (peacetime soldiers). I have never forgotten your story and ultimate sacrifice. Your story is one of the most noble and inspiring tragedies I know. I shed a tear for you and your family today brother in arms. RLTW! Mon, 31 May 2010 05:56:48 -0700
