I can't remember exactly what we were talking about anymore, but I have a feeling we were talking about California. What I do remember is that it was the happiest I'd seen you all deployment. In the midst of war, we were all still able to smile and enjoy life. That was a special group of men. Your memory lives on. You will always have my respect and appreciation. I remember when I was only a couple years younger than your son, him and I use to always hang out. My father was SF just as yourself and I'm thankful he was able to safely serve 20 years. It pains me to see a man who I saw and admired the same way I did my father, be gone so soon. I was about 10 or 11 years old when the news came and I remember being there with your wife and son before it came time to attend the funeral. Even though I haven't spoken to little David, your wife, or Grant, in almost 10 years, they're always the highlight of what was in my mind a very memorable childhood. I pray that a family that has continued to stay together since your heroic fate, will continue to do so. So funny to think how little David and I shared the same first names as our father's and they were coincidentally both SF soldiers. Hood Texas. He was a great soldier and had a good personality. I was shocked to learn of his death. Either to his family, friends or country. Knowing him since elementary all through high school and then after, gave me the blessing of being close to a true hero. Dang it! We always talked about being someone to remember in life. I guess he beat most of us to the position. Now all I know is that when the time is right we will all be received by our beloved hero with a big 'o party. Just because that is the way David would have it for any of us. Thats the way any of us that knew him well would have it for such a great hero in all our hearts. God bless him and all of those who have been, are, and will continue to be affected by the many down-sides of war. Gerardo Lara aka Jerry Wed, 17 Feb 2010 11:03:12 -0800
