He was always positive and happy and I'm glad to have called him a friend!! Seems like an eternity ago, but I can remember it like yesterday. We were so young and just learning how to be Soldiers, how to be men, and how to get to Louisville on our weekend pass. Mike was my friend. We had some great times and it saddens me to remember them. I hope you took an upstairs pass and I will see you soon brother. He was always a very hard worker and never complained. I'll never forget his work ethic and the way he cared about his classmates. I am proud to say that I knew him. I hope that my daughter comes home with a man of Mike's integrity and compassion someday. God bless you Mike. We'll never forget your heroism and friendship. He was fantastic and one of the very best of 100 great guys in our outfit. I think about him all of the time. I am in Baghdad now, not far from where Mike fell over 7 years ago. This morning I heard a song I had listened to here while running with Mike the morning he fell. He was the maintenance team foreman of our tank company. He died fighting as a loader on a tank on a very difficult day, April 4th, 2004. We all miss him a great deal. Mike's father, Bill Mitchell, has stayed in good contact with us through the years. I am thankful we can communicate with him about this. He was such an inspiring guy. Always positive, upbeat, with a very strong desire to be responsible, lead and be a great example. We were working on his packet for Warrant Officer Candidate School when he was Killed In Action. They do not come any better. More often than not I enjoyed his company in P.E. or an English class. He was a star athlete and nice person who demonstrated a tremendous amount of character while in high school. I'm saddened by his untimely death even after six years, and count myself privileged to have known him. I will never forget him. At PHS there is a memorial with the names....I have those names in my heart and alone with the many Vietnamese who also lost. I served two tours in Nam, 1970-1972. I honor your service and your family. I will continue to pray for your family and pray for a end to the killing. Tue, 18 May 2010 11:17:25 -0700
