There isn't a day that goes by that I don't remember him. I bear a remembrance tattoo of your son, I honorably sought when we returned home from that fateful deployment, so that his memory is eternally with me. Here in Rhode Island, there is an event hosted annually, called Boots on the Ground. At the tribute, there is a combat boot representing every fallen service member since 9-11 with a name and information placard. I attendeded, for the first time yesterday, and have photos, I could share with you if you, see this and desire. You can find me on Facebook at the above name, we can, then, coordinate further communication from there. Should you so choose. Each year his Dad would come to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl with radio partner and Vikings great Joey Browner and we would do a show. I was looking forward to finally meeting the young man the next year after his service. The night before the game with all the Perez family in tow we went out for dinner in Kailua. My son Brandon, then still just a toddler, was being doted on by the girls. It was a wonderful evening and I always thought that perhaps in some way Rich Jr. on his way to heaven looked down on us that night and saw that his family was together and having fun in a place he loved coming to. The following morning the Marines came to the hotel and broke the news. My heart sank that day for my friend and his family. God Bless Richard Perez Jr. and all those others who served. Aloha.
