Reared in the San Fernando Valley, Olvera spent his youth playing soccer with brothers. He enlisted in the Marines the year he graduated high school. A rifleman and radio operator, Olvera was killed "as a result of a hostile incident while conducting combat operations" in Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. His family said they were told he was killed by an improvised explosive device.

Never leave what you can do today for tomorrow...... a few months ago I was able to get in contact with Javier and always said to myself that i would get in touch with him but for whatever reason i was never able to .. now i regret it so much. We went to high school together and he was truly one great friend always being different, funny, and would always come out with something out of nowhere which was truly what made with special and unique... although we lost contact after he move from reseda i never forgot about him and always hope for the best...now i will never be able to tell him how happy i was to get in contact with him again...however he will always be remember and love... WE MISS YOU JAVIER and WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear, Javier There are no words in the world to describe how I feel at this moment.A day passes by and there is never a moment that I do not think of u.I pray to u every night and I think that u r the miricles to my blessings.I know that each night I pray to u I always ask u for something and for some reason the next day they come true.U r like my lucky star up in the sky.I can see u and feel u but nobody knows that.well the day u left to heaven was the day my family and I went to las vegas for a family vacation.Well on the way over there I suddenly got the urge to txt my bro. I said 'thank u so much for the money and I love u so much.Be very careful and stay safe.we will miss u.Than I got a feeling that something was going to happen.I wanted to go back home bcuz I got a feeling that something bad was going to happen but I didnt tell anybody in the car so I kept it to myself.I went back to playing the gameboy. Than sunday came around and at 7:30 am I got the news, I didnt believe my dad,everyone was still sleeping and so I went to the bed and i said' diana wake up'What?what happen she asked 'i need to tell u something,what?javier just past away..she looked at me with a blank face and got up and said'NONONONO..why and began to cry......it was the hardest thing i have ever done..we couldn't eat at all.I will never forget that day.I think that u gave me the urge to send it so I can thank him for all that he has done for my family.Its was u that was giving me those feelings and now I know why u were making me feel that way and I thank u for it.You have changed my life for good.You taught me how to cherish every moment and step I take.You taught me how to respect and honor my parents and I thank u for that.May God bless u and u will always be in our hearts.WE LOVE U SO MUCH AND U WILL LIVE FOREVER.THANK U AND RIP.I LOVE U CUZ.<3333

The days following LCpl Olvera's tragedy is an experience I will never forget. It is no surprise that LCpl Javier came from a loving and caring home masterminded by his regal parents, Martha and Francisco Olvera. Throughout my experience as a Casualty Call Officer , I have never being more touched by such devotion as those contributed to Javier's and his heroic sacrifice. I sincere hope that my duties as Javier's Casualty Call Officer was done in the most professional manner and were in sync with Javier's wishes.
The entire Olvera Family is amazing and carries genius qualities that every family should inherited. I will continue to keep the Olvera family in prayer and hope that God's mercy will carry them through.
