Patrick S. Tainsh, 33
After his death, Tainsh's stepmother was told that during his final battle, he fired 400 shots from two weapons, saving the lives of 12 men, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported. Tainsh grew up in Oceanside and loved to surf. He worked at Lake Tahoe ski resorts before joining the Army at age 29.
