Pedro A. Barboza Flores, 27

Barboza Flores was one of two Marines killed when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle during a push into southwestern Afghanistan's Helmand province. At 6’2 and 220 lbs. when he first tried to enlist, he was too heavy, older than most at 25, and needed to finish high school. But days later he returned to the recruiting station in Glendale to report he had enrolled in GED classes and started a training regimen.
