Earle Williams
Earle Williams was a silent film star who was regarded as a film pioneer and was once considered one of the world's most handsome stars.
Williams began acting on the San Francisco stage at age 20. He turned to films in 1908, appearing in several movies that year.
He starred in a number of early films for Vitagraph Studios, a prominent film production company of the era that was later purchased by Warner Bros. His most frequent costar was Anita Stuart.
Williams later signed with Paramount and remained with the studio for 12 years, after which he worked on a freelance basis. He finished work on his final film just weeks before his early death, caused by bronchial pneumonia, at age 47.
Among the honorary pallbearers at his funeral were such film luminaries as Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer.
