Born Joan Henrietta Collins on May 23, 1933 in London, United Kingdom

Joan Collins is an English actress and author best known for playing Alexis Carrington Colby in the prime-time soap opera “Dynasty,” which earned her six consecutive Golden Globe nominations between 1982 and 1987. By the series' final season, Collins appeared in only 13 of 22 episodes because producers could not afford her salary each week.

Collins was born in West London to show-business parents: Her mother, Elsa Bessant, was a dance teacher-nightclub hostess, and her father, Joseph Williams Collins, worked as an agent whose clients included the Beatles and Tom Jones.

After studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, Collins began her screen career in 1951 playing a beauty queen contestant in “Lady Godiva Rides Again.” She starred in such British films as “I Believe in You” and “Our Girl Friday” before she was signed by 20th Century Fox as their answer to MGM’s Elizabeth Taylor.

Collins appeared in numerous films and television shows before landing her iconic role on "Dynasty." On the big screen, she starred in “The Stud” and “The Bitch,” adaptations of the racy novels by her sister Jackie Collins that became England’s most profitable films since the James Bond series. On television, she guest-starred on programs such as “Batman,” “Love Boat” and the classic “Star Trek” episode “The City on the Edge of Tomorrow.”

Collins’ personal life drew as much attention as her professional career. She married five times, had a very public relationship with Warren Beatty and has been romantically linked to men including Dennis Hopper, Arthur Lowe, Sydney Chaplin, Ryan O’Neal and George Englund. Collins is currently married to theater company manager Percy Gibson, who also directed her 2006 one-woman show “A Evening With Joan Collins.”

Of her infamous relationship with the younger Beatty, Collins said: “I don’t think I can last much longer. He never stops. Must be all those vitamins he takes.” And when asked about rumors they were having sex seven times a day, Collins quipped: “Maybe he did, but I just lay there.”
