Joyce Compton was an actress who graced movie screens opposite Cary Grant, Jack Benny and Clara Bow.
Compton was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Lexington, Ky., and was placed under contract at age 19 after her family moved to Hollywood in 1925. She debuted in "Ankles Preferred" and made more than 200 films, including "Mighty Joe Young," "Christmas in Connecticut," "If I Had a Million" and "Only Yesterday."
Even after her retirement from acting in the early 1960s, Compton remained in touch with Hollywood as a dress designer, writer and artist.
She died at age 90 on Oct. 13, 1997, at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital in Woodland Hills.
