Major Bowes was a radio host and personality, who through his "Amateur Hour" program rocketed hundreds to fame.

Bowes first developed a radio program called "Major Bowes Capitol Family" broadcast from the Capitol Theater in New York.

In 1935, when hundreds of young people were searching for jobs during the Depression, Bowes started his famous "Amateur Hour" program that offered a golden chance for singers, musicians and entertainers of all kinds.

Bowes also served as vice president of the Goldwyn Pictures Corporation in 1922.
