Actor Stuart Erwin portrayed a warm-hearted but often bewildered father on the long-run TV series "The Trouble With Father."

Erwin's entertainment career reached from the Clara Bow era of the movies to the early days of television. He was cast opposite Bow in "Dangerous Curves," in which he played the role of a small-town boy who laughed at his own jokes.

He then made a series of pictures, including "Pigskin Parade" and "The Cock-Eyed World," in which he played the role of a good-natured bumbler.

Erwin was born in Squaw Valley, Calif., and attended UC Berkeley. However, he left school his sophomore year to go to Los Angeles for his first professional appearance, in a play called "The Open Gate" at the Moreno Theatre.

In his TV series of the 1950s, "The Trouble With Father," Erwin starred with his wife, June, in a situation comedy that was still being rerun for a number of years.

After the series ended, Erwin occasionally made guest appearances on TV.
