Ward's great-grandfather was an Army Ranger in World War II. His grandfather served in the Army and the Navy in Vietnam. Two uncles served in the Navy, one during the Gulf War. His sister Samantha has served on a Navy ship off Bahrain, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Aaron J. Ward and I went to basic and AIT together. At first he seemed like an annoying private that like to be "Mr. know it all" but as the time went by and I started talking to him he was chill. So chill that we went home for home town recruiting and got stationed at the same post. Also he lived like 10 min. from my house, and we were recruited from the same recruiting station in hemet. To add to it he was also my roomate here at Ft. Lewis, and was like my right hand man. I never meet a soldier so dedicated to his job as PFC Ward. In the end I just want to show my respect to his family and let them know he was a hell of a soldier...

Aaron ward, in my darkest hours I think of you. My life isn't easy as I'm sure you no. And I think of you to comfort me. Everytime a light randomly turns on or my fan starts up on its own or the times I see the same grey birds that always seem to fly infront of my car I think of you. I know your there and I know you are watching us. I also know it was you who protected your mom and niece not to long ago. I love you Aaron ward and I miss you everyday. If we could have you here we would prob give anything. But I know we can't because you are gone until we meet you in heaven. Until then my love I will think of you when times are difficult and I wish you where here.
