Mora was one of four soldiers killed July 24 at Qalat, Afghanistan. The men were fatally wounded when insurgents attacked their military vehicle with an improvised explosive device. In 2009 Mora received a commendation from Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for dashing into a minefield to rescue Afghan civilians injured when a roadside bomb exploded.

We first met our cousin when he moved to the U.S. from the Philippines, I believe he was around the age of 9 or younger. Many years later he visit us in Las Vegas in 2002, while I was home on leave for Christmas. He shared his interest in joining the Army once completing High School. I served in Iraq with my husband in 05'. (An Najaf) FOB Duke. We were very lucky to have returned home safely. Conrad, I wish I had kept in better touch with you, but through pictures and stories, I know you served with honor. Your wife and son are very proud of you and Chris will indeed grow up knowing his father - a true hero. You will be missed. I'm sorry I can only be there at your ceremony in spirit; a moment will be shared in silence.

I will always remember Conrad as the sweet, brave, funny guy that always knew the right words to say. Ever since the 8th grade, Conrad has always been the guy that girls always swooned for but not me..haha..I fell for his best friend Ronald and plus my best friend Rhonda was the one who ended up going out with him. But that’s how I knew of him, girls always talked about him! But finally we became friends in the 8th grade..in a dance group! Yes, Conrad knows how to dance and he’s really good at it too! Break dancing was more of his thing, as well as rapping =). But we met then and since then we became great friends, also because he’s best friends with my boyfriend Ronald. They were each other’s first friends in the United States and let me tell you, they were and still are inseparable. Whatever Conrad did, Ronald would follow..even it was something crazy like jumping off of trees or roofs or whatever..haha. They were like brothers! But Conrad not only had one brother but he had a handful of friends that he grew up with ( Rodolf, Michael, Darwin, Joshua, Bryan, Ralph, Kendall and of course Ronald). They were a crew that did everything together! Till this day, I still believe that they share some traits that are similar to Conrad but I guess it’s because while growing up they learned things from one another. Conrad has always been known to lead and that’s why it’s no surprise that Conrad is a SSG in the Army. He’s always been the bravest one of the group and at the same time very compassionate to his friends and especially to his family. He has always been a sweetheart, caring for others feelings and listening to your problems. He sure listened to some of mine and again he always knew the right words to say. Conrad is an all around guy that has your back when you’re in need and you always believe him when he tells you that everything’s going to be okay and for some reason it always is. Conrad’s just Conrad…a husband, father, brother, friend, and hero to all! <3
