Cullins was killed Oct. 18 by a secondary bomb as his unit was investigating an earlier explosion. He is the second LAPD officer to die in Afghanistan. Robert J. Cottle, a SWAT officer and sergeant major with a Marine Corps Reserve battalion, was killed March 24.

Though I graduated Royal HS in 1988, way before your time, I wanted to extend my sympathy, my best wishes to your loved ones, and the pride I take in your bravery. That you attended the same high school as myself hits hard. That we, as a nation, can call upon men like you to protect us is telling. If we could only put aside all these divisions and political rancoring and remember that we are all Americans, united by the example of self-sacrifice of men like you, maybe we can restore America. Despite so many corrupt & incompetent Republican & Democratic politicians and sleazy Wall Street CEO's, I still have hope. Thank you for your sacrifice, may we all strive to follow your example.
