The Department of Defense reported that Diamond died Feb. 15, in As Salam, Iraq, when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle. He served three tours in Iraq. When his mother visited Diamond last year before he began his last tour, she asked him, “Why are you doing this? You’re getting kind of old.” He replied, “Because they still need the help, Mom.”
