1990-91 Season

Record: 58-24, second place in Pacific Division

Pat Riley resigned as Lakers coach before the season. In his nine years at the helm, the Lakers won nine Pacific Division titles and four NBA titles. He was replaced by Mike Dunleavy.

During the season, Magic Johnson handed out career assist No. 9,888 on April 15 to pass Oscar Robertson and become the NBA's all-time assists leader, but the Lakers had to settle for second place in the Pacific Division.

Playoffs: The Lakers upset the favored Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference finals to advance to the NBA Finals against the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers won Game 1, but the Bulls won the next four to give Michael Jordan his first NBA title.
