Palmer enlisted for the first time in 1992 and served four years. He reenlisted in 2005. In a letter to the Marine Corps explaining why he wanted to return, he wrote that he had never found another job "equal to the Marines."

To: The PALMER family so sorry for the loss of CHARLES. As a citizen i am so grateful for his sacrifice for the freedom of all americans. Its such a shame that mankind has to oppress others in order to fulfill their agenda. One day there is going to be an ending of senseless warfare throughout the world. When mankind will be able to live in peace and harmony, with each other our father who art in heaven sanctify your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as well as in heaven. Gods kingdom will put an end to mans senseless wars.
